Accessing the Menu SystemSVPAL PPP Users with Full Internet accounts should follow these directions for changing a password. To change your password you must login to SVPAL's menus. If you are a menu user then you can skip to section below "Using the SVPAL Menus to Change your password." Logging into the Menu SystemAt the login: prompt you should enter your SVPAL login username (e.g. janedoe) then press the Enter key. FreeBSD/i386 (borg.svpal.org) (ttyp0) Now enter your SVPAL password. Note that your password
is not displayed on the screen. Press the Enter
key after typing your password. FreeBSD/i386 (borg.svpal.org) (ttyp0) If you entered your username and password correctly you should
see the Message of the Day (MOTD) appear on screen. If did not
enter your username and password correctly, you are again prompted for
your username with the login: prompt. Using the SVPAL Menus to Change your passwordOnce you have successfully logged into SVPAL and read the MOTD (Message of the Day), type "q" and then "q" again to proceed to the main menu. On the main menu enter "9" then press the Enter key to go to the Personal Information menu. On the Personal Information enter "2" then press the Enter key to change your password. The following appears on your
screen [note that your SVPAL user name appears on screen where
"janedoe" is in this example]: Changing password for janedoe on svpal. Enter your current password, then press the Enter
key. [Note that your password does not appear on the
screen.] If you make mistake, press the Backspace
key
several times to completely erase your typing. Then re-enter
your password again. If you mistyped your password, the following
appears on screen: Changing password for janedoe on svpal. Select option "2"
and try again. If you entered your password correctly, the following appears
on your screen: Changing password for janedoe on svpal. Enter your desired new password, then press the Enter
key.
If you mis-entered your new password, press the Enter
key
until you return to the Personal Information menu.
Select option "2"
again. Otherwise, the following appears on your screen: Changing password for janedoe on svpal. Enter your new password again, then press the Enter
key. You are prompted to enter your new password twice
to insure that you have entered your new password correctly.
If you entered your new password correctly, it is changed
immediately. You must use the new password the next
time you login. If you cannot login with the new
password, try the old password. If neither works, call
SVPAL support for help. You should see the following on screen if you
password has been changed: Your new password may not take effect for up to 10 Press the Enter key to return to the
Menus. Then enter bye to logout from the menu system. |
