Updating Dialup Access

The dialup access point (POP) at 408-971-9083 has been removed from service.  If you have been using this number for dialup access you need to change the number to one of our other numbers: 408-453-9950, 408-294-4113, or 650-961-3569.   If you are using 408-453-9950, or 650-961-3569, then you do not need to make any changes.

If you would like to use the new San Jose dialup number 408-294-4113 follow the directions below.  One advantage of the San Jose dialup is that it is 56K.  The other numbers are 33.6K.

If your computer displays a dialup dialog before connecting to SVPAL, you can typically modify the number there. Otherwise, follow the example below to modify your dialup settings to use one of the other numbers.

The new number for the SJSU access point is 408-294-4113.  Users who wish to use the new number must also modify the username setting to use their email address instead of just the username.  For example instead of janedoe, you would use janedoe@svpal.org in the username field.  See the example below.  This new form now works for all our dialups.

The new number, 408-294-4113, does not support Text/Menu access, so you must use one of the other phone numbers:  408-453-9950,  or 650-961-3569.

In your dialup settings make the following changes:

Here's an example for modifying your dialup setting on Windows 2000.  Other versions of Windows are similar.  Refer to your SVPAL user guide for more details.

Select Settings from the Start menu, then select Network and Dial-up Connections from the Settings menu. You might need to select Control Panel instead and select Network from there.  Older versions of Windows you open up My Computer to find the Network icon.




If you already have a dialup connection, double-click it to open it up.  In some cases you may need to use a right button press and select Properties if the double-click does not produce the correct display.  In this example it's labeled SVPAL.




In this example the user  name is janedoe, so we enter the information with the domain name janedoe@svpal.org. Then replace the telephone number with the new number 294-4113. If you are not in the 408 area code, then you should enter the number as 1-408-294-4113.
